Question about football manager 2010?

I have only just started playing this game (albeit on the ipod version) and I have been at the same club for about 10 seasons. I had a message earlier that said the board wanted to offer me a position on the board of directors and would allow me to leave when ever i feel i have taken the club as far as it can go. I clicked on NO by mistake when asked if i wanted to accept and by that time it was too late as when i quit and reloaded the game to accept, the message didn't come back.

i was just wondering 2 things:

1) what would the advantages have been of accepting this post
2) How do i get the board to offer me the position again (i have won the league, all domestic cups and the champions league this season so im not sure what else to do)
